She wants to tell her family she is ready to start dating, but she is unsure how they will react to the information. So, she chooses to test the waters with her closest friends first.

Kim Plath of Welcome to Plathville understands that her family has been going through a lot. Season 5 of the TLC reality series shows that there have been many changes for the entire family. Some good and some bad. But she thinks it is time to move on with her life. She wants to tell her family and friends she is ready to start dating. She has already met someone whom she is fond of.

The problem is that the Welcome to Plathville mom is unsure how everyone will accept the news. She knows it will be hard for the children to accept at first, and she is nervous to tell them. So she decides to ease into the subject and start by telling her closest friend first. Things go well, and she understands it is time to find happiness.
Kim recently engaged in a heart-to-heart talk with her son, Micah Plath. He had a lot of questions for his mom about her split from his dad, Barry Plath. Following their conversation, she felt that Micah better understood some of the things she and Barry went through leading up to their divorce. Since then, she has been thinking long and hard about talking with all of her children about her plans.
TLC Mom Fears Fallout
The Welcome to Plathville siblings are all moving and adapting to their new lives. It has been tough on the welcome to Plathville kids dealing with their parent’s split. But they are all adjusting. She needs to talk to the children but fears their reaction. It will not be easy for them to see her move on and be with someone other than Barry.
Kim feels deep down that some of the children hoped they would reconcile. But that is something that she says will not happen. She has met someone that she wants to date regularly. They have been keeping their relationship quiet for the time being. But her feelings for the new man in her life are growing stronger. She wants to stop hiding their relationship.

She tells her close friend that she is terrified.”I feel like it is kind of time for me to talk to the children and let them know I’m seeing somebody.” She continues, “I know that some people wait until they know they are going to marry the person before they introduce them to their children. I know some people introduce right away, but this is all new to me. I’m trying to figure it out. So I don’t know. It just feels now is a good time.”
Kim’s friend chimes in. She tells the nervous Welcome to Plathville star that she didn’t tell her kids about her love life until she knew that her new partner would be spending the night.”But you know your kids better than me,” she adds.
Welcome to Plathville: Kim Takes a Stand
The Season 5 promo trailer shows that Kim first decides to talk with Moriah Plath and Lydia Plath. She felt it was time to break the ice. When she tells her daughters that she feels she is ready to start dating, the girls do not take the news so well. Moriah immediately tells her that she does not support that, and Lydia agrees.
Kim is surprised by their quick reaction. But the Welcome to Plathville mom does not get rattled. She suspected she would likely face some resistance at first. She doesn’t let it bother her. But there is one more important detail they don’t know. The man she is dating is a close family friend and Issac Plath’s flying instructor, Ken Palmer.
As a parent, she understands they may need some time to process the information. But she stands her ground. She tells the TLC cameras that her daughters’ opinions are important to her. Yet she can’t let them dictate her private life. She hopes they will take time to think things through and come around.

The Welcome to Plathville star knows she must also let her other children know. But for now, Kim Plath is okay with taking baby steps. But the time is coming when she wants to introduce her new love interest to her family. She knows it will be difficult for them, but she needs to live on her terms.
