Vidya Balan ADMITS she developed smoking habit after The Dirty Picture: “I love the smell of smoke”

Vidya Balan recently shed light on an interesting experience following her portrayal of Silk Smitha in the critically acclaimed film, The Dirty Picture. In a candid conversation with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia, the actress discussed the challenges of embodying the character’s bold personality. Vidya spoke about the importance of authenticity in her performance, stating the need to be “unabashed and unapologetic” to accurately portray Silk Smitha. This dedication, however, led to an unexpected consequence.

The 45-year-old actress revealed that she developed a habit of smoking cigarettes after filming wrapped. She admitted to smoking two to four cigarettes a day during this period. While acknowledging the health risks associated with smoking, Balan confessed, “I actually enjoy smoking. I’ve always found the smell of smoke very… so if you told me there’s no harm that the cigarette will do to you, then I would’ve become a smoker.”

She further added, “I love the smell of smoke. Even at bus stops in my college days, I used to stand next to people smoking.” As the conversation progressed, she was asked if there was a phase in her life when she used to smoke. To which, Vidya replied, “Haan, phase raha hai. After The Dirty Picture, voh aadat lag gayi.” She revealed that she would smoke two to four cigarettes a day after the film was over.

Coming to the professional front, Vidya is currently seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar, co-starring Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy. She will be next seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 as the OG Manjulika.
