Ruslaan director Karan Luthia speaks on making Aayush Sharma starrer on Rs 25 crores budget: “It’s essential to strike a balance between ambition and pragmatism”

In an era where big-budget blockbusters often equate to extravagant spending and flashy visuals, Ruslaan stands out as an example of the fact that scale doesn’t always require a hefty price tag. With a modest budget of 25 crores, this sharp and slick action film proves that excellence in filmmaking is not defined by the size of the production budget.

Directed by Karan L Butani and produced by Sri Sathya Sai Arts, Ruslaan is a masterclass in efficient and effective filmmaking.  What sets Ruslaan apart is its ability to prioritize substance over spectacle. While other films may rely on lavish sets and costly special effects, this film focused on whipping up a compelling story and engaging characters. With Aayush Sharma leading the charge as the charismatic protagonist, Ruslaan showcases the best of Bollywood’s action talent without breaking the bank.

Director Karan L Butani says, “In the world of filmmaking, preparation is paramount. For Ruslaan, we did an exhaustive pre-production process to ensure that every aspect of the film was meticulously planned. From scouting locations to choreographing action sequences, no detail was overlooked. This comprehensive approach allowed us to execute our vision seamlessly, resulting in a smooth shoot that stayed true to our schedule. Despite the film’s international schedule and ambitious set pieces, we made sure to stick to our allotted budget. Every rupee was accounted for, and we avoided any unnecessary expenditures that could have jeopardized the production.”

He further added, “This disciplined approach not only ensured that Ruslaan was completed on time but also relieved any undue pressure on the production house. It’s easy to get carried away with grandiose ideas and extravagant spending. However, as a director, it’s essential to strike a balance between ambition and pragmatism. By adhering to our budget and prepping meticulously, we were able to deliver Ruslaan within our means without compromising on quality. Ultimately, this disciplined approach allowed us to create a film that punches above its weight and delivers a thrilling cinematic experience to audiences.”

As Ruslaan prepares to hit screens nationwide, it serves as a reminder that greatness in cinema is not measured by the size of the budget, but by the creativity, passion, and ingenuity of those behind the camera. Ruslaan starring Aayush Sharma, Sushrii Mishraa, Jagapathi Babu and Vidya Malvade is directed by Karan L Butani and produced by Sri Sathya Sai Arts. The film is all set to release on April 26.
