After garnering a terrific opening of Rs. 75 crores (all languages), Shah Rukh Khan’s latest offering Jawan was expected to go into overdrive, especially on Saturday and Sunday. This is exactly what has happened. The film netted Rs. 77.83 crores and Rs. 80.10 crores in the two days respectively and finished with Rs. 286.16 crores in the first weekend.
By doing this, the film has broken the record for the highest opening weekend of 2023. The second film in the list is SRK’s earlier release Pathaan, which made Rs. 280.75 crores on its first weekend. Interestingly, Jawan and Pathaan hold the first and second place respectively also in the list of all-time highest weekend grossers for Bollywood movies.
Coming back to the opening weekend record for 2023, the third film in the list is Gadar 2, which amassed Rs. 134.88 crores in its first weekend. One can see a major gap between the opening weekend numbers of Pathaan and Gadar 2. Adipurush finds itself at the fourth spot in the list with Rs. 103 crores in its first three days.
