On its opening day, Yodha has taken a start of Rs. 4.25 crores at the box office. This is a fair beginning for the film which has been mounted on a good scale and has also been aggressively promoted. That was needed as well since in the current times it’s increasing difficult to bring a film to the audiences unless it’s an event or holiday release. Hence, one has to give it to the makers that they kept pushing the film relentlessly during last one month so that at least some sort of a start could come in.
Now it’s all about the kind of momentum that builds from onwards. Given the fact that Sidharth Malhotra is leading the show as an action hero and Dharma Productions has backed the film, it does warrant higher numbers from here. Moreover, the reviews too have been decent to good at least, which is understandable for an action film like this. Also, word of mouth has been encouraging if one looks at the way the film continues to see increased footfalls from afternoon to evening and then night shows.
On the other hand, second release of the day was Adah Sharma starrer Bastar. The film comes from the same team which had made The Kerala Story last year (producer Vipul Shah, director Sudipto Sen). Seeing a limited theatrical release, the film has seen collections also quite limited at Rs. 0.35 lakhs. Despite the genre, subject and release, one still expected at least 1 crore mark to be hit as that would have given it some sort of a starting point. However now one waits to see if collections double or triple between today and tomorrow as that would be the bare minimum expectations for Bastar to hang in there till end of week at least.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
