Rishab Shetty to kick off Kantara 2 production in December: Report

Filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty is all set to commence shooting for the highly anticipated sequel to his blockbuster film Kantara in December. This sequel expected to be predominantly filmed in India, is poised to surpass its predecessor in scale and action, with shooting scheduled to conclude by August 2024.

Kantara 2, the sequel to Rishab Shetty’s critically acclaimed film Kantara, which was even considered for an Oscar nomination, is set to kick off production in December as per report. The shooting for the sequel was primarily be based in India and promised to be a larger-scale project with more intense action sequences. Shetty is currently undergoing extensive physical training to prepare for his role.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating Kantara 2, especially after the tremendous success and global recognition achieved by the first instalment, which gained popularity primarily through positive word-of-mouth and even garnered consideration for an Oscar nomination. Pre-production work for the sequel is already underway.

A reliable source close to the project shared with IndiaToday.in, “Kantara 2 shoot begins in December. Rishab is currently prepping for the film, which is being planned to be mounted on a larger scale than the first one. A lot of action can be expected in the second part, hence the shooting schedule is spread across vast timelines. The film will be shot across three phases and is expected to end by August 2024. Kantara 2 will mostly be shot in the country.”

Rishab Shetty’s rigorous physical training is indicative of the extensive action sequences that the sequel will bring to the screen. The script for the film was finalized during the first half of 2023, as confirmed by Chaluve Gowda of Hombale Films.

Kantara, initially released in Kannada, later found its way into Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu markets due to its exceptional reception. The film is an action-packed thriller deeply rooted in Karnataka folklore, with Rishab Shetty in the director’s chair and featuring an ensemble cast that includes Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty in pivotal roles.
