Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Israel episode has a slight but EERIE similarity with her latest release, Akelli

The industry and moviegoers woke up today to the worrying news that Nushrratt Bharuccha has been stuck in war-torn Israel. Moreover, her family and team stated that they were unable to get in touch with her. Thankfully, at around 10:40 am, her publicist told a news agency that the actress was safe and that with the help of the Indian Embassy, she was being brought back to India. Reports also stated that Nushrratt Bharuccha landed in Mumbai at 2:00 pm today, that is, October 8.

Coincidentally, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s latest release Akelli was also about an innocent young girl stuck in a war zone in the Middle East. The thriller was about Punjab-based Jyoti who has no choice but to take up a job in Iraq after she is fired by her airline employers in India. Trouble arises when she is taken captive by the militants. How Jyoti faces hardships and escapes from their clutches to India forms the rest of the story.

Of course, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s ordeal in Israel was not as challenging or gruesome as depicted in the film. However, one couldn’t help but draw parallels with Akelli due to the militants and Middle East angle and also because the film is fresh in the minds of people. It was released in cinemas on August 25.

Interestingly, Nushrratt Bharuccha travelled to Israel since Akelli was officially selected at the prestigious 39th Haifa International Film Festival. The screening was held on October 4. The screening was attended by the film’s team, including Israeli actors Tsahi Halevi and Amir Boutrous of Fauda fame. Dashami Studioz, which produced Akelli, have uploaded pictures from the premiere on their Instagram handle.

On Saturday, October 7, Palestinian militants launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel. They kidnapped several citizens and soldiers and fired rockets even in cities like Jerusalem. Israel launched airstrikes in Gaza in retaliation. As per a report in The Times of India, at least 400 people have died and thousands wounded.
