Riteish Deshmukh reflects on his father Vilasrao Deshmukh: “I learned everything in life from my father”

Riteish Deshmukh is a name which has made significant contributions in both Bollywood and Marathi films. Riteish, although being born into a political family, chose to pursue a career in entertainment. He is the son of the late Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh. Even though he works as an actor, both of his brothers are still involved in politics.

Ritesh’s wife, Genelia, is also an actress. Despite working in Bollywood, the actor is still firmly attached to his roots, as evidenced by his demeanour and speech.

In a recent interview with Devyani Pawar’s YouTube channel, actor Riteish Deshmukh discussed his strong ties to his cultural heritage and familial values. He looked into how his background influenced his personal and professional life. The actor revealed that when his children appear in front of the camera, they invariably link hands.

Reflecting on the role of culture in shaping one’s identity, Deshmukh emphasised the importance of upbringing and the tradition of visiting Latur during holidays and celebrating festivals with his children as a way of preserving their cultural heritage.

The actor said, “I think our culture makes us. So, it is very important how we are cultured at a certain age. I learned everything in life from my father. Our entire childhood was spent in Babhalgaon, Latur. So even today, during holidays, we take our children to Latur and celebrate festivals together.”

Deshmukh explained that the name ‘aho’, which he used to call his mother and brother, represents the ongoing link to their village. He thanked his father for teaching him the virtue of respect, emphasizing that reciprocal respect within the family is essential.

He went on to say that the most essential life lesson is to gain self-respect. If you want someone to appreciate you, you must first learn to respect the other person, said the Ek Villian actor.
