Last few years, certain dubbed films from south have indeed made a great impression at the box office. Though for every good film, there are at least five to seven really bad films that come as well and emerge as abysmal disasters, one tends to remember the ones that made an impression. In that aspect, there are certain big ones that have indeed set records at the box office.
Now, Kalki 2898 AD has stepped into the list as well, what with its opening day collections comfortably entering the Top-5 list. What’s all the more interesting is that 3 films in the Top-10 have been post pandemic with the one right at the top, KGF: Chapter 2, turning out to be the biggest of them all despite arriving soon after the pandemic and opening floodgates for other films.
Let’s take a look at the Top-10 biggest opening days for south films in Hindi:
KGF: Chapter 2 – Rs. 53.95 crores
Baahubali: The Conclusion – Rs. 41 crores
Saaho – Rs. 24.40 crores
Kalki – Rs. 22.50 crores
2.0 – Rs. 20.25 crores
RRR – Rs. 20.07 crores
Salaar – Rs. 15.50 crores
Kabali – Rs. 5.20 crores
Baahubali: The Beginning – Rs. 5.15 crores
Radhe Shyam – Rs. 4.40 crores
Kalki has stayed behind Saaho by a quite some margin, otherwise Prabhas would have boasted of 2 films in the Top-3. That said, when it comes to the Top-10 then the superstar has 6 films in the list where his box office disaster Radhe Shyam is in the list as well. This further goes on to show that how so many films from south have actually worked best on the basis of word of mouth, case in point being Pushpa: The Rise, Kantara, HanuMan and Leo, which opened much lesser but went on to have a far bigger business than Radhe Shyam.
