It’s not one or two days, Jawan has faced competition from cricket matches for three days in a row now. First, it was Sunday when there were ‘kabhi haan kabhi naa’ moments aplenty due to uncertainty around whether India vs Pakistan match will eventually take place or not. Then on Monday it was a ‘kabhi khushi kabhi gham’ moment as on one side India won the match against Pakistan whereas on the other side box office collections were indeed impacted for Jawan. Next up even on Tuesday it was a bittersweet experience for all associated with Jawan since India won a cracker of a match against Sri Lanka but then its several twists and turns resulted in audience attention been diverted as many put their plans to watch Jawan in the areas for hold.
As a result, the film slid down from its Rs. 30 crores benchmark and ended up bringing in Rs. 24 crores more in the Hindi version. This too is a huge number actually by all means but then the fact also remains that so far Jawan has lost at least Rs. 8-10 crores in last three days due to cricket matches. Hopefully though, this shortfall would be covered in days to come since the next match is on Friday with Bangladesh and that shouldn’t impact footfalls much. That said, on Sunday there would be finals and if India ends up meeting Pakistan at the ground, then the impact would be felt by Jawan.
Nonetheless, with no new release in sight right till September 28, there is a lot that the Shah Rukh Khan starrer can still earn in weeks to come. Currently, the overall score in Hindi stands at 306.58 crores and on Thursday it should end up crossing the Rs. 350 crores mark. This one is a blockbuster already and would be aiming to earn an all-time mega blockbuster tag for itself once it enters the Rs. 500 Crore Club.
