Gadar 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol starrer beats Baahubali 2: The Conclusion; emerges the 6th highest All Time opening weekend grosser

When Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released in 2001, not many expected it to make such a huge impact at the box office. More so because the film clashed with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India. But Gadar, which starred Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Amrish Puri in pivotal roles, not only became successful but also achieved history the box office.

Similarly, Gadar 2, the sequel to the film, was expected to do well at the box office but not to this extent. The movie has gone onto earn a mammoth Rs. 133.88 crores in its first weekend. In this way, it has become the sixth highest all time opening weekend grosser. The film has beaten Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which made Rs. 129.77 and Rs. 128 crores respectively, who had earlier acquired the sixth and seventh position.

The Top 5 films in the list include Pathaan (Rs. 280.75 crores), KGF Chapter 2 (Rs. 193.99 crores), Sultan (Rs. 180.36 crores), War (Rs. 166.25 crores) and Bharat (Rs. 150.10 crores).

The unbeatable number from the list is obviously attained by the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan. The film also holds the honours of being the all-time highest grossing Bollywood movie by finishing its journey at a humongous Rs. 543.05 crores. It will be interesting to see how long the film stays at the numero uno position.
