EXCLUSIVE: Saiyami Kher on India’s chances in T20 World Cup Final, “We know South Africa doesn’t like pressure games”

Apart from proving her acting prowess through films like Ghoomer, Saiyami Kher has also proved her love for the game of cricket over the years. She not only plays cricket and regularly shares her take on the happenings in the world of cricket on social media, but also hosts a cricket talk show.

Needless to say, Saiyami is eagerly awaiting the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup Final tomorrow between India and South Africa. For the unversed, India reached the Final after defeating England in the Semi-Final yesterday.

Sharing her feelings before the big match, Saiyami told Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive chat, “I am nervous for sure because you know how our record has been in ICC tournaments in the last 10 years. So, I am extremely nervous. But we have managed to go past Australia and we have beaten England. So, the wounds of (2023) ODI World Cup and 2022 (T20 World Cup) Adeliade have been healed. With South Africa, it’s all fresh. We know South Africa doesn’t like pressure games, so hopefully tomorrow we can go past South Africa.”

Coming to India’s Semi-Final victory, Saiyami said that she was pretty sure the team would get over the line after scoring 171 in their allotted 20 overs. “I was confident because of the way the pitch was keeping low,” she said. “I felt with Axar (Patel), Kuldeep (Yadav) and, of course, (Jaspreet) Bumrah, we had a bowling line-up to defend that kind of a score on that pitch.”

Saiyami is very passionate about her cricket talk show on Cricbuzz. Speaking about the same, she said, “It’s a passion thing for me. I do it purely as a passion project because I really enjoy the game. I do it as and when I get the time. I get to spend time with all my childhood heroes, so I genuinely enjoy it a lot,” she said.

Saiyami’s studio mates from the show have made it a point to see her cricket film Ghoomer. “Everyone in the studio has watched Ghoomer and they loved the film,” she said. “So, I feel I have been able to make all my cricketing idols watch a film that is close to my heart.”

Directed by R Balki, Ghoomer also stars Abhishek Bachchan. The film sees Saiyami play a paraplegic bowler. The movie is all set to have its world television premiere on Zee Cinema on Sunday June 30 at 8 pm.
