EXCLUSIVE: Naezy reveals he was “Psychologically hurt” by a fictionalised story in Gully Boy: “They twisted my personal story”

Naved Shaikh, better known as Naezy, is a rapper who rose to fame after his life story inspired the Bollywood film Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh. Recently, Naezy performed at the VH1 Supersonic Music Festival. He exclusively spoke about his struggles, success, and life after the film’s release in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.

When asked if his parents had seen the movie, Naezy said, “My parents haven’t seen it because everything was fictionalised. They showed things that didn’t happen, like my father having two wives and me being in two relationships. That’s not true. My parents are still together, and I’ve never been in two relationships. I’m not that kind of person.”

“Apart from that, the things they showed were true, like me making songs on an iPad and coming from a Muslim family. But everything else was fictionalised. So I believe people shouldn’t believe everything they see in the movie. I’ll be back with the real story and tell everyone what happened,” he added.

“Gully Boy changed my life, both positively and negatively. Psychologically, it hurt me a lot because they twisted my personal story. But business-wise, it was beneficial,” said Naezy.

On a similar note, it is worth mentioning here that Gully Boy was submitted as India’s official Oscar-entry, however, the film did not make it to the nominations. For the unversed, directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy also featured Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma, Siddhant Chaturvedi and others in prominent roles.
