EXCLUSIVE: “My job of playing Atal Bihari Vajpayee was made easier by Kangana Ranaut,” shares Shreyas Talpade

After a lot of delays, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is now all set to release in theatres on January 17, 2025. As per the title, the film is about the Emergency imposed in India in 1975 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Along with being the director, Kangana also plays the character of Gandhi in the movie.

Emergency also stars Shreyas Talpade in the important role of the younger Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who later went onto become India’s Prime Minister. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shreyas expressed his happiness to see the film finally releasing. “I think it’s a very well-made film,” he said. “Obviously, Kangana Ranaut as an actress and director seems to be in top form with this one. I am very happy and excited that we finally have got a release date.”

The Om Shaanti Om actor said that it was very challenging to play Vajpayee, but his job was made easier by Kangana. “She had done her homework really well,” he said. “In fact, she was the one who helped me with a lot of research and mannerisms I should be using while portraying the character. So, I just hope people like what I have done in the film. And if they like it, the credit definitely goes to our director Kangana Ranaut.”

Emergency has faced delays but Shreyas shared that Kangana finished her job of making the film before the scheduled time. “I was always a fan of her as an actor,” he said. “She is quite phenomenal. And she is phenomenal in this film as well. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the director in her. She was so well-prepared and well-disciplined. She, in fact, finished worked before time. To execute a film of this scale and a subject like this with this finesse is very difficult. I think Kangana has done a fabulous job with that.”
