DOOL viewers got a whole lot of storylines in 2023. Some good. Some not-so-good. These are our top 5 Best Storylines of 2023.
1: Xander Cook and Sarah Horton Reunite! Team Xarah gets their wish in 2023. Xander Cook’s (Paul Telfer) and Sarah Horton’s (Linsey Godfrey) romance tops the best storylines. Just when things looked dire for a romantic reunion, everything changed for the better for Xander and Sarah. Further, that NYE kiss may lead to more in 2024.
2: Megan Hathway’s Return: Oh, Megan Hathaway DiMera (Miranda Wilson)! She truly earned her bad girl badge and claimed her late father Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) last name in 2023. She kept Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) alive. Plus, her scenes with her sister Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) were gold! And she’s Dimitri von Leuschner’s (Peter Porte) mom. Enough said.

3: John Black’s Dad: Next, most Days of our Lives fans loved the John Black (Drake Hogestyn) long-lost father storyline this past year. Plus, we got to see the legendary Dick Van Dyke play his Veteran dad, Timothy Robicheaux. Yet, will he remain his bio dad when writers revisit John’s Pawn storyline in 2024?
4: Philip Kiriakis Leaves Salem with Chloe Lane: Even though Philip Kiriakis’s (John-Paul Lavoisier) storyline was fast and furious on DOOL, he finally got to ride off into the sunset with his first love, Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin). Hopefully, we will see them back in Salem in the New Year.
5: Susan Banks Lives! Of course, we love that Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) wasn’t killed in that fiery crash in 2023. Soap watchers love her down-to-earth attitude and her love for her son Elvis John/Junior, aka EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Not to mention, her psychic ability often saves the day.
DOOL: 5 Worst Storylines of 2023
Of course, many Days of our Lives viewers thought some storylines were not great in 2023. However, as with any best/worst list, it’s all perspective. Here are the storylines we wish would go away or finally be resolved in 2024.
1: Nicole Walker’s Stolen Baby: While many viewers think that Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) deserves the karma, most of us want her to learn that Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) stole her son. Please give her that baby boy back to Nicole in 2024.
2: Alex Kiriakis as Victor’s Secret Son: When fans mourned the on-show loss of Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) in the Fall of 2023, we learned that Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) was his long-lost son. Hopefully, the snarky new Titan CEO will learn the truth soon so Dandy Xandy can take his rightful place in the Kiriakis clan.
3: Abe Carver’s Endless Amnesia: Next, Abe Carver (James Reynolds) deserved the Christmas miracle missing from the 2023 holiday season. His amnesia has gone on long enough. Let Abe remember his family, friends, and wife, Paulina Price (Jackee Harry), in 2024.
4: The Bo and Hope Non-Reunion: Meanwhile, on Days of our Lives in 2023, the huge Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) reunion build-up leads to nothing but a rushed, incomplete storyline. Most fans feel let down. Hopefully, if writers bring the OG supercouple back for 2024, they do much better.
5: Too Many Firings in 2023: No worst storyline list would be complete without mentioning the pink slips handed out in 2023. Characters Belle Black (Martha Madison) and Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) are both from legacy families but were let go with “meh” storylines in 2023. Likewise, for Chloe Lane. Will the new Executive Producer bring back the Last Blast crew in 2024?
Days of our Lives: Best and Worst Storylines Honorable Mentions
DOOL viewers saw an influx of children on the Peacock streaming sudser this year. First, bringing kids to the show in and of itself tops the Best Storylines of 2023. Many fans were skeptical when the writers SORAS’ed Tate Black (Jamie Martin Mann) and Holly Jonas (Ashely Puzemis). However, Tate and Holly bring a new teen scene and important stories to the soap that will continue into 2024.
However, the two babies, Jude Roman Petersen-Brady and Victoria Grace Horton-Cook must be put on the worst storyline list. Why? Writers and prop masters dropped the ball when they just used an empty blanket for the babies. Seriously? Couldn’t they find an appropriately sized baby doll to use? Plus, the blanket hasn’t even been swaddled right for the actors to hold. And fans have noticed.
Further, it’s doubtful this will change in 2024. Yet, they may still bring real infants to Days of our Lives in the New Year. Only time will tell if Xander and Sarah get to hold a real baby on the NBC Peacock exclusive.
