After Gadar vs OMG 2 and Animal vs Sam Bahadur, yet another high-profile clash is actually paying dividends at the box office. Both the new releases are doing well at the box office and though there is capacity for a lot more, given the genre of the two movies and the eventual reach that they can manage, a start has come in at least.
This was seen on Friday when between the two films, over Rs. 35 crores came in. Of course, daily capacity that’s available is in excess of Rs. 75 crores which means the overall occupancy is still around 50% and there is scope for a lot more to come in. However, given the fact that this was a regular Friday, and the holiday season will begin from today, one looks forward to the combined collections hitting 50/60/70 crores mark in next 3 days.
If we talk about the individual collections, then Salaar pleasantly surprised with Rs. 15 crores coming on Friday. This is a very good number since it’s an out and out massy film and has a quintessential south feel to it, which restricts its reach at a pan-India level. Moreover, the clash factor and screen distinction issue meant that there was a risk of the film not even taking off. That has not happened though and hence it should do well from here. On the other hand, Dunki has also held on well with Rs. 20 crores been collected on Friday, which sets the stage for a bountiful long weekend ahead. The film has now scored a half century already with its overall score reaching Rs. 48 crores and by tomorrow close of day, it should enter Rs. 100 Crore Club as well.
