Pushpa 2 – The Rule stunned the industry with its box office performance. Everyone knew that it’ll open to record numbers, but no one was prepared about the fact that it’ll cross the Rs. 75 crore mark on its first Sunday. Despite challenges faced by Bollywood of late, the trade experts are confident that an original Hindi film will be able to do so in the next two years.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “Records are meant to be broken. At one time, we never imagined a film would collect Rs. 100 crores in its lifetime. But today, countless films have achieved it. Similarly, new benchmarks would be formed.”
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh agreed, “Never say never. Waqt aur box office ka pata nahin hai. Let’s not underestimate any film. War 2 and Ramayana have the potential. Pushpa 2 is a beautiful turning point and iske baad bhi aap nahin sambhale, then I don’t know what to say.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal predicted, “It will be achieved in 2025. Post-pandemic, we were wondering if we could see a film crossing even Rs. 300 crores. But in 2023, we saw 4 films crossing the Rs. 500 crores mark. In fact, I feel a film can collect Rs. 1000 crores nett domestically in the next two years. Ranbir Kapoor very soon would deliver a Rs. 1000 crores grosser. YRF can also do so. Even Shah Rukh Khan can achieve it, if he does the right film.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, answered, “War 2 has a strong chance, but I would place my bet on Ramayana due to the casting of Ranbir Kapoor and Sunny Deol. Also, it’ll arrive on Diwali and will be mounted on the lines of Diwali. Hence, that film would be big.”
Popular director-producer Sanjay Gupta replied, “100% it’ll happen but the least we can do is work 100% hard. Pushpa 2 – The Rule makers took 300-odd days to make the sequel. It took them 3 years (to make both parts). Do we have actors or directors who are ready to devote so much to a film? Even Baahubali took 5 years of Prabhas’s life. We need actors with such dedication and the rest will follow automatically.”
