Despite critical acclaim and box office success, Ranbir Kapoor’s action drama Animal continues to evoke diverse reactions. Recently, director Vishal Bhardwaj, in an interview with Firstpost, revealed a complex reaction to the film. “I have still not made up my mind what to feel about that film,” Vishal stated. “Because I enjoyed it and at the same time I hated it.”
Released in December 2023, Animal tells the story of Ranvijay (Ranbir Kapoor) aka Vijay, a man entangled in a toxic relationship with his father. The film portrays Vijay as a morally ambiguous character, willing to commit violence in his father’s name. While the film resonated with audiences, grossing over Rs 900 crore worldwide, it also sparked controversy.
Critics debated the film’s portrayal of Vijay, questioning its misogynistic undertones. On social media, discussions raged about the director’s depiction of the father-son dynamic.
Despite the mixed reactions, the film’s success has secured a sequel. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced Animal Park, described as “bigger and wilder” than the original. The sequel’s shoot is slated for 2026, with reports suggesting Vicky Kaushal might play the antagonist, potentially facing off against Ranbir.
