Vikramaditya Motwane reflects on making Lootera; reveals Ranveer Singh is a “fourth or fifth take” actor while Sonakshi Sinha is a “second-take actor”

Vikramaditya Motwane, the acclaimed filmmaker, recently shared insights into his experience of working on the 2013 period romantic drama Lootera, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. Adapted from O. Henry’s short story ‘The Last Leaf,’ the film explored a complex yet heartwarming romantic relationship between a wealthy young woman and a conman.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Vikramaditya Motwane delved into his experience of directing Lootera and working with the duo of Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. He offered fascinating insights into their respective acting approaches.

Motwane noted that Ranveer Singh is a meticulous actor who typically requires multiple takes to fully immerse himself in a character. He described him as a “fourth or fifth take” actor who takes the necessary time to achieve the desired depth in his performance. On the other hand, Motwane praised Sonakshi Sinha’s efficiency, labelling her a “second-take actor.” He added, “She will do the first take, and then you tell her what you want in the second take, and she’s bang-on in the second one.” He explained that she usually delivers a stellar performance on her second attempt, often requiring minimal direction.

Addressing the challenge of managing actors with different working styles, Vikramaditya Motwane emphasized the importance of careful shot planning. He stated, “You have to break down your shots accordingly. I will start with the second-take actor and then move on to the other actor, who will have warmed up by then by doing off-takes for the first actor.”

Vikramaditya Motwane has currently collaborated with Ananya Panday for a thriller project. Details regarding the same are yet to be out.
