Varun Dhawan clarifies Baby John is different from Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri; says, “It’s more of an adaptation”

Varun Dhawan is gearing up to thrill audiences with his upcoming action-packed film, Baby John. Directed by Kalees, the highly-anticipated project has generated much excitement among fans. However, reports have been circulating that the film is a remake of the Tamil hit Theri. Recently, Varun addressed these speculations, clarifying that Baby John is an “adaptation” rather than a “book-by-book remake.”

At a recent press event, Varun explained why Theri director Atlee brought the project to him, acknowledging changes in the film’s geography and storyline. Speaking about the adaptation, Varun stated, “Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different. So, if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that’s not what the film is. It’s an adaptation. We’re not running away from that, but it’s more of an adaptation.”

Varun further emphasized the fresh perspective the film offers, including a modern take on parenting and a focus on women’s safety in India. He revealed that the movie incorporates a “big case” inspired by real-life events, and his character has been modified to suit this narrative approach.

The Tamil original, Theri, was released in 2016, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by Atlee Kumar. Featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson in key roles, it became a major success. Now, Baby John brings a fresh spin to the story with a stellar cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav. The film also promises special appearances by Salman Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Sanya Malhotra, further amplifying the excitement.

The Baby John trailer teases a heartfelt yet intense storyline, focusing on the bond between Varun’s character and his daughter. He is portrayed as a devoted father who balances parenting with his duties as a police officer. His daughter humorously tells him that just because she calls him “baby” doesn’t mean he is one! The trailer also offers glimpses of romance with Keerthy Suresh and appearances by Sanya Malhotra and Wamiqa Gabbi, adding emotional depth. Jackie Shroff, as the antagonist, steals the spotlight with his menacing performance. The trailer concludes with Varun’s character unleashing his fury to protect his daughter at any cost.
