Tota Roy Chowdhury reveals Karan Johar to be one of the ‘kindest’ people he has every met; says, “There is a lot to learn from him as a human being”

Tota Roy Chowdhury has won hearts across the country with his role of an unconventional father as he plays a Kathak dancer in the last Karan Johar directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film also saw him work with the filmmaker as well as the entire team for the first time and the Bengali star couldn’t stop gushing about his team. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, not only did he express his admiration for Karan as a filmmaker but also appreciated his strength of being himself despite all the negativity he has experienced.

Karan Johar has time and again opened up about the social media trolls which are often directed towards him for several reasons, whether its his ootd looks or his parenting or for nepotism. However, in a recent interview, Tota Roy Chowdhury revealed that Karan is not at all like the way he is perceived as. “I will tell you what the reality is. He is one of the kindest and nicest people I have ever met. He is such a lovely human being,” Tota Roy was quoted saying.

Continuing about how he is often misunderstood, the Bengali actor shared, “This perception is a myth. I think he is also tired now. He probably doesn’t make an effort to correct those. Kuch toh log kahenge. Logo ka kaam hai kehna (people will always talk about something or the other). He has given up on the fact that people will always misunderstand him. He does what he does best.” He also showcased his admiration about how the filmmaker continues to stand tall despite all the hatred and trolls directed towards him as he added, “The biggest compliment I can give him is that all this negativity couldn’t change him as a person. He is the same, kind of person that he has always been. Had I faced any such negativity, I would have been very bitter, but he is not bitter at all. He is happy and calm. When he is directing a film, it’s his happiest place. There is a lot to learn from him as a human being.”

In the same interaction, Tota Roy also addressed the rumours of the filmmaker being called the ‘flag bearer’ of nepotism. Mentioning about how he treats all his actors equally, the actor shared, “All these people were saying nepotism, this and that–it’s been going on and on, I want to tell them I have nobody in the film industry, yet the way I was treated by Mr. Karan Johar was really something I have never been treated on any sets. I think that should answer how democratic he is.”

For the unversed, Tota Roy Chowdhury essayed the role of Rani aka Alia Bhatt’s father in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and also the son of Shabana Azmi’s character Damini. The romantic comedy received a massive response at the box office for breaking stereotypes.
