Shruti Haasan opens up about 8 years of sobriety; says, “Alcohol was a big thing in my life”

In a refreshingly candid conversation, actress-singer Shruti Haasan revealed she’s been celebrating life alcohol-free for eight years now. Speaking on the podcast Untriggered with Aminjaz, Shruti addressed her past relationship with alcohol and the empowering journey to sobriety she’s undertaken.

Discussing her decision to leave behind the party scene, she shared, “I used to [drink], but I’ve been sober for eight years now. So, it’s hard to tolerate people in party situations when you’re not drinking.”
However, the Yevadu actress’ perspective on sobriety is far from judgmental. “I have zero regrets, zero hangovers, and it’s just been the best to be sober for me,” Shruti emphasized, further adding, “It might be a phase, or you might like doing it for the rest of your life, that’s chill.”
While clarifying that drugs were never on the table, the 37-year-old actress acknowledged alcohol’s significant presence in her life. “Alcohol was a big thing in my life, but at some point, it just didn’t serve me at all anymore. I was always hungover, and I always wanted to drink with my friends,” she explains. This realization led to a pivotal decision: “So, I felt like it was more in control of me.”
The Gabbar actress doesn’t shy away from mentioning the challenges, admitting that navigating social situations can be tricky. “It’s hard to tolerate people in party situations when you’re not drinking,” she says.
“I distanced myself from many people, particularly freeloaders, who exacerbated my drinking habits by constantly suggesting partying,” she revealed.
Coming to the professional front, Shruti was last seen playing a cameo in Telugu-language film Hi Nanna, starring Nani and Mrinal Thakur. Now, she is gearing up for the release of Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire. Directed by Prashanth Neel and headlined by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the action drama is slated to release on December 22.
