Shah Rukh Khan reveals that Pathaan director Siddharth Anand expressed the desire to see how Rajkumar Hirani directs Dunki: “Siddharth said, ‘I want to see how he gets those lines to work in his films’”

Shah Rukh Khan was seen in two mainstream mass-oriented films, Pathaan and Jawan, this year. He ends 2023 with Dunki. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film is set in a different zone compared to the previous two films. Shah Rukh Khan was asked recently about the atmosphere on the sets of a Rajkumar Hirani film.

Shah Rukh Khan said, “Mera yeh manna hai ki set wohi achha hai jahan pyaar mile, khushi ho aur haste khelte film banein. Raju Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and the rest of the team are very loving and happy people. They are very detailed and hardworking. Whether it is the costume department, make-up department, Abhijat or Raju sir, they give you all the information you want. Toh kaam bahut kam ho jaata hai. You are never lost on the set. Iska yeh matlab nahin ki dusre sets pe main lost hoon (laughs)! Nevertheless, it was very heartening.”

Shah Rukh Khan continued, “Lines, emotions par aur choti-choti baat par dhyaan diya jaata hai. The written word is a very important aspect of Raju sir and Abhijat’s films. Bahut important hai woh. Uski importance shayad main bhi bhool chuka hoon. Humko sirf dialoguebaazi samaj aati hai. There is no information scene in Mr Raju Hirani’s films. It either has a high point or a low point or a comic point or some kind of movement for the story, including the songs. Koi bhi cheez lafandarbaazi ke liye nahin hoti ki ‘yeh cheez daal dete hai isme’. His films are tight and brief. If the film’s runtime is more, it’s to ensure that the storytelling and the written word is clear to everybody. It is not made for some people. It is made for everybody. That is a big learning experience.”

Shah Rukh Khan then shared an interesting trivia, “As a matter of fact, I was shooting for Pathaan. Siddharth Anand told me, ‘Yaar, mujhe Raju sir ke set pe aana hai. I want to see how he directs. I want to see how he gets those lines to work in his films’. And he came at night. Pata nahin, woh kya seekha hai. Dusri picture jab uske saath karunga tab dekhunga! But I can understand what he felt that (he wanted to witness) how Raju sir unfolds the story (on celluloid).”

He ended his answer by stating, “We sometimes feel that we should make the film a little complex and interesting. Raju sir just makes it very simple. According to me, simple is the most intelligent.”
