Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge gets nostalgic shoutout from Oscars Academy; watch

The iconic 1995 Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, received a special tribute from the Oscars Academy on Instagram, leaving fans around the world feeling nostalgic. The Academy’s post featured the film’s evergreen song ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna,’ accompanied by the caption: “Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol performing the classic song ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna’ from 1995’s ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.'”

Fans flooded the comments section, expressing their excitement and love for the film and its stars. Many commented on the Academy’s recognition of the film’s cultural significance, with one fan writing: “The academy posting this makes me emotional. These two have contributed so much to Bollywood and I look forward to the day that they are honored as well!”

Another fan hailed Shah Rukh Khan as a legend, stating: “SRK the legend and a luminary who waltzed through the realms of cinema, leaving a trail of stardust in his wake!” Some fans even expressed their desire to see the on-screen pair reunite in a new film, with one writing: “We want to see this couple again on the big screen. DDLJ continues to hold the record for the longest-running film in Indian cinema history, with uninterrupted screenings at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre for over 27 years. The film’s enduring popularity is a testament to its heartwarming story, memorable characters, and timeless music.

The film, directed by Aditya Chopra, stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran. The supporting cast includes Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri, and Anupam Kher, all delivering stellar performances.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are one of the most beloved on-screen couples in Bollywood history, having starred together in numerous hit films like Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name is Khan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Dilwale. Khan had a particularly successful 2023 with three blockbuster movies – Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki.
