Sandeep Reddy Vanga AGREES Animal’s runtime forced multiplexes to reduce number of shows

Readers may recall that Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) with a runtime of 3 hours and 21 minutes. Recently, the director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, shared his concern over the same.

Speaking about the impact of the film’s runtime on its business, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga said in an interview with M9 News, “Runtime of Animal definitely affected the shows of the film. Anil Thadani (distributor) said to me instead of 6 shows a day in a multiplex, we might get only 4 a day because of your length. I said, it’s fine but if I cut length of my film theatres would be empty by 3rd day.”

With that being said, it is worth mentioning here that earlier, Ranbir Kapoor had also shared his view on the same. During a promotional event in Delhi, RK said, “We have seen a cut of this film which is 3 hrs 49 minutes and that also held. Even that was entertaining. Sandeep has worked really hard to bring the length down because you cannot stretch that much. Hoping that the audience do not panic by the length and just come experience cinema at its best.”

His Animal co-star Rashmika Mandanna also further explained, “This film has multiple complex characters. If you take one character out of it can be a movie in itself. So if you have to enter the world of Animal and understand what psyche they are coming (from), you need so much time and that is the instinct we have gone by. The film is so strong, it holds so well, it is not something you have to worry about.”

Speaking of the film, besides Ranbir and Rashmika, it also stars Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. It is slated to release on December 1. It has already sold 2 lakh + tickets for its opening day.
