Sajid Khan says, “Aadhi picture karke Sanjeev Kumar bhaag gaya. My father lost all his money”; also reveals that he was signed as the host of Antakshari before Annu Kapoor

Sajid Khan, last seen in ‘Bigg Boss’, gave a rare interview to a YouTube channel ‘Timeout With Ankit’ wherein he spoke about his beginnings and also his tough childhood.

Sajid began by saying, in his trademark humorous style, “In Bollywood, a lot of people make imaginary tales about their childhood that ‘Main lamp post ke neeche sota tha’, ‘Main kutte ki katori mein doodh peeta tha’! Aisa kuch nahin hota hai (laughs). Of course, everyone goes through a lot of struggles and it’s difficult how many of these stories are genuine or fake.” He added, “In our case, everyone knows that Farah and I were kids of a filmmaker who lost his money, and they came on the road.”

Sajid then said, “My father used to make B-grade timepass mazedaar films with Dara Singh. When Farah was born, my father was going through a very good time. When I was born, he gave his first flop! Hence, I say, ‘I started my life with a flop’ (laughs). He must have thought that since he now has a son, he needs to make bigger films. He decided to make an A-grade big film with Sanjeev Kumar. That film never got made. Aadhi picture karke Sanjeev Kumar bhaag gaya. My father lost all his money.” He also revealed, “Then my father became an alcoholic and my parents got divorced.”

At another point in the show, he revealed that he was signed as the host for Antakshari before Annu Kapoor. He confessed, “I used to do shows in college where I used to earn Rs. 200 to Rs. 300. Then, in the early 90s, Zee TV started. I was called for auditions for the show Antakshari. I used to do mimicry, sing, dance, DJ-ing, etc. I got selected as a host for Antakshari. That was my first break on television.”

He continued, “But before the shoot of the first episode, I ran away. That was the most unprofessional thing I have done in my entire life.”

When asked why he did so, he answered, “Meri bahut fatt gayi thi! I knew that the show was going to be a blockbuster. I felt that I’d be known as the guy who hosted Antakshari. Thank God they took someone so versatile as Annu Kapoor. He’s a fine actor and has a very big personality. He made sure that Antakshari became his; he did not become Antakshari’s. That wouldn’t have happened to me. I wanted to be known as ‘host and dost, Sajid Khan’.”
