Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been the talk of the town for a while and has already been renewed for a season 2. Sharmin Segal, who plays Alamzeb in the show, has received tremendous amount of criticism and trolling over the past few weeks. Many have called out her behaviour during the interviews; while others felt her performance wasn’t up to the mark. And now, her defence, Richa Chadha has spoken.
Richa Chadha took to her social media to raise her voice against all the destructive criticism that people are spreading. She wrote, I know it’s tempting to jump on a trend, but to make another human being click bait? I think we can all do better than that, be better than that. Be kind. Please. It can affect someone’s mental health. A big election just happened, there’s a heat wave on, there’s so much going on in the world! Please move on?”
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Sharmin said, “Every creative person creates for an audience. They are a very important part in a creator’s journey, in a creator’s life because they also help you grow.” She further claimed, “With negativity comes positivity. You have to take it all in, figure it out accordingly, and what resonates with you and what doesn’t resonate with you.”
The actress also revealed her interpretation of the character and being open to constructive criticism. “She is quiet, she is nuanced, she is innocent, she is vulnerable to that degree, and I think it stands out a little differently because she is not a tawaif. So that I think is an important part of the character and how me as an actor and Sanjay Sir as the director interpreted the character.”
“I did put in a lot of hard work and at the end of the day, I gave it my all. But I gave it my all eventually to give it to my audience and they do have the right to voice their opinions, and, in the world, we live in today it’s very easy and accessible to voice your opinion,” she concluded.
