At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Rasika Dugal was honoured with the Diversity Champion award, a recognition of her contributions to broadening the scope of Indian cinema.
In her acceptance speech, she expressed her deep gratitude and said, “I am honoured to receive the Diversity Champion award. It is a privilege and complete joy to get an opportunity to experiment with different genres, different styles of filmmaking, and different characters within narratives that are attempting to push boundaries.”
Dugal’s career has involved exploring a range of roles and unconventional storytelling. Her focus on diverse characters and narratives demonstrates her commitment to challenging norms and exploring different aspects of human experiences.
In her speech, Dugal acknowledged the unique and often daunting path that actors traverse. She said, “Every actor’s journey is unique and while it’s exhilarating, it’s also sometimes terrifying to carve your own path,”
She remarked that her recognition as a Diversity Champion reflects her approach to pursuing roles that defy traditional expectations.
With gratitude and enthusiasm, Dugal concluded her speech, “So, I am truly grateful to the jury for regarding my choices with this award. Here’s to brave choices and celebrating diversity.” Her words highlighted her personal achievements and her commitment to fostering inclusivity and innovation in cinema.
