Rajkummar Rao graces National Voters’ Day event in Delhi

Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao, who was honoured as the national icon by the Election Commission in a ceremony held last October, made his presence at the National Voters’ Day event in Delhi.

This marks Rajkummar Rao’s maiden appearance at the National Voters’ Day event, where he met the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, along with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and other esteemed election commissioners. The event aims to foster awareness, motivate voters, and combat apathy among the youth who often abstain from participating in the electoral process.

The choice of Rajkummar Rao as the national icon holds a special significance, given the actor’s notable portrayal of a government employee on election duty in the acclaimed 2017 film Newton. The film, which garnered widespread acclaim, presented a realistic and thought-provoking depiction of the challenges faced during the election process in rural India.

Following the success of Newton, Rajkummar Rao was appointed as the brand ambassador for civic polls by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, underscoring his commitment to civic awareness.

Rajkummar Rao’s participation in the National Voters’ Day event aligns seamlessly with his on-screen portrayal of civic duties and his real-world involvement in promoting voter engagement. His presence is expected to contribute significantly to the event’s objective of encouraging civic participation, particularly among the younger demographic.
