Prithviraj Sukumaran speaks on taking “backseat in terms of screen time” in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: “Rather than placing yourself first, place the film”

Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Malayalam superstar known for his captivating performances, is embracing a supporting role in his next Hindi film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Sukumaran joins Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in the action-packed movie directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

The actor further talked about prioritising the film’s narrative over personal screen time. “I believe that rather than placing yourself first, place the film and make sure the casting is done in a way that justifies the story… If you look at my filmography in Malayalam, there are multiple films where I’ve taken a backseat in terms of screen time” Sukumaran told PTI in a recent interview.

He cites his 2021 movie Kuruthi as an example, where he opted to play the antagonist despite being offered the lead. “Kuruthi was first pitched to me to play the lead, which was played by Roshan Mathew. It took a lot of convincing on my part to convince the director Manu Warrier that I should play the villain, and someone else should be the hero,” he added.

While Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff take center stage in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan as elite soldiers on a mission to recover a stolen weapon, Sukumaran highlights the importance of his character, Kabir.  “The film wouldn’t be complete without Kabir,” he states.

Sukumaran commends Akshay Kumar’s professionalism and work ethic. “Working with Akshay sir has been a learning experience,” he shares. “He’s incredibly disciplined and dedicated. He arrives on set at 7 am with boundless energy, always focused and prepared.” Sukumaran also admires Kumar’s personal life balance, praising him as a fantastic father.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, produced by Pooja Entertainment in association with AAZ, releases on Eid, April 10th.  The film also features Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F.
