Music Review: Stree 2

EXPECTATIONS

Back in time when Stree had released, it has boasted of a couple of major chartbusters. Moreover, produced Dinesh Vijan has a very good sense of music and when it comes to big flagship films like these, you know that the music would turn out to be chartbuster kind.

MUSIC

This is where Sachin-Jigar and Amitabh Bhattacharya come in handy. When there is one single team working on the entire soundtrack then there is certain consistency that one can be assured. Also, they are accomplished artists in the music scene and with Stree 2 as the film, they are expected to give their best.

No wonder, they hit a six with the very first song, Aaj Ki Raat. This one is a unique composition for sure since it has everything from a ghazal feel to the lounge setting with even an item number vibe to it, something which may have been really tough to pull off but comes across as rather effortless here. Moreover, full credit to newcomer singer Madhubanti Bagchi to have delivered so effectively with this song which has risqué lyrics but still due to her rendition, they never come across as obscene. Also, nice to see Divya Kumar and Sachin-Jigar come together as a part of the chorus and singing on behalf of the audience here.

Vishal Mishra steps in for Khoobsurat, a love song which has a nice romantic feel to it. With an old world vibe to it, the song has a sufi base to it and you can’t help but recollect the kind of songs that Pritam had created for Milan Luthria’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai series. Sachin-Jigar support Vishal Mishra as background vocalists in this easy-on-ears song which won’t emerge as a huge chartbuster but does play its part in the film’s narrative.

What follows next is an out and out dhamaal song in the form of Aayi Nai. This could in fact have been the opening track of the soundtrack as it just gets the vibe going. Though it plays in the end credits of the film, the wait for Aayi Nai is there right through the narrative as it has such a mood setter. It’s wonderful to see Pawan Singh in great form here as he sings with aplomb. Same is the case with another newcomer singer Simran Choudhary who gets the whole desi rustic setting right and is clearly enjoying her time behind the mike. Divya Kumar and Sachin-Jigar play their supporting part well in this song which is going to play for many more weeks to come.

Last to arrive is Tumhare Hi Rahenge Hum and if one compares it with another love song in the soundtrack, Khoobsurat, then it’s actually a better one. Newcomer Varun Jain sings with his heart in there and one can sense that he is actually rendering it for someone special. While Sachin-Jigar step in as the chorus singers, Shilpa Rao makes a belated entry into the song and does leave a good impression. The song brings a satisfactory closure to the album.

OVERALL

The soundtrack of Stree 2 works quite well in totality. With a couple of dance numbers and a couple of love songs, it’s a short and sweet album which leaves a good impression.

OUR PICK(S)

Aayi Nai, Aaj Ki Raat, Tumhare Hi Rahenge Hum
