Mumbai Heroes press conference: “We later became fans of Tom Cruise and Shah Rukh Khan. But as kids, we were fans of Sunil Gavaskar” – Sohail Khan

The press conference of Mumbai Heroes, which is playing the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), turned out to be a fun-filled event. It was attended by Mumbai Heroes owners Sohail Khan, Jordy Patel and Adil Jagmagia along with it’s star players, Bobby Deol and Saqib Saleem CCL founder and Vishnu Induri.

Sohail Khan, at the press conference, opened up on how he and his team has changed since the time CCL began in 2011. Sohail Khan said, “All the men have become boys! It (CCL) has got us back in the sports. There is a certain kind of fitness that we have for our work while we shoot our films. But here, there are no duplicates. So, when you see us diving, running and sweating, we (are doing it ourselves). It’s a different kind of a high.”

He added, “We later became fans of Tom Cruise and Shah Rukh Khan. But as kids, we were fans of (sportsmen) like Sunil Gavaskar.”

Sohail Khan continued, “It (CCL) keeps you motivated and we are fortunate that we got this opportunity through Vishnu Induri sir who expressed a desire to start the league. I remember meeting Suniel Shetty and telling him, ‘Anna, we need to put up a team’. We did that and it was an exhibition match that we played against the South team. That got CCL roaring.”

Sohail made it clear that he and his team are very passionate about CCL, “We have cancelled this month’s shoot. We make excuses (to not go for the shoot) because we love it.”

Last year, Mumbai Heroes almost won the semi-final but then got defeated by Bhojpuri Dabanggs team. On this, Sohail Khan exulted, “It was very fortunate. I give full credit to the Bhojpuri Dabanggs’ batsman. He had nerves of steel to hit a six on the last ball of the match. It was unbelievable. I had even taken out my shoes as I was all set for the victory run (laughs)! And then I saw the ball going for a six right in front of my eyes. It was a heart wrenching moment but I could feel their happiness. Also, at the end of the day, we are all a part of one industry. We are all actors. They deserved to win.”
