Motorola Showcases Bendable Phone With Flexible Display That Can Wrap Around Wrists

While foldable screens are slowly becoming mainstream, Motorola is working on a more advanced concept phone display that can wrap around your wrist. The Lenovo subsidiary showcased its flexible pOLED display concept phone at the annual Lenovo Tech World 2023 on Tuesday (October 24). The new smartphone form factor has a full-HD+ pOLED screen and can be bent backwards and wrapped around a wrist like a wristband or a smartwatch. The adaptive display concept can be positioned in several stand modes.

Motorola has unveiled its new adaptive display concept at Lenovo Tech World 2023. As mentioned, this new conceptual device has a full-HD+ pOLED display that can be bent and shaped into different forms depending on users’ needs. This adaptive display concept can be adjusted from a standard Android phone experience in a flat position to being wrapped for a wrist-worn experience or positioned in several stand modes. The device can stand on its own as a bipod, offering a hands-free experience for the user.

When laid flat, its 6.9-inch screen can be used like a standard smartphone with a full Android experience. It can also be adjusted to a self-standing position with a 4.6-inch display. Additionally, Motorola notes that users can wrap the device around their wrist like a smart band or smartwatch to get a similar experience to the external display on the Motorola Razr Plus’s cover screen. However, there is no word on when this new device will appear in stores.

Motorola offered a glimpse at the rollable Rizr concept at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023) earlier this year. Besides Motorola, brands including Vivo, Transsion Holdings and TCL are gearing up to unveil another rollable display form factor in 2024. Samsung is currently leading the foldable smartphone space.

Additionally, Motorola demonstrated some generative AI features that let users personalise their phones. With this concept, users can upload or capture a picture of their outfit to produce different AI-generated images that reflect their style. Further, the brand announced that it is developing a personal assistant called MotoAI for both PCs and smartphones. Beyond that, Motorola has unveiled an AI concept model that enhances the Doc Scanner capability currently present on Motorola camera systems, an AI Text Summarisation tool and a Privacy Content Obfuscation concept that leverages AI to protect user details.

From the Nothing Phone 2 to the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, several new smartphones are expected to make their debut in July. We discuss all of the most exciting smartphones coming this month and more on the latest episode of Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.
