Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One Box Office: Scores excellent in extended 5-day weekend, goes past Rs. 50 crores mark

It’s a 50 for Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One. Arriving with high expectations and very good anticipation, the film is still doing far more than the expected lines and bringing on excellent moolah. The fact that it’s a very good entertainer also means that it won’t be just about the extended weekend show and the film will go on to have a good enough run.

This can well be seen from the fact that the start is pretty much impressive with Rs. 65 crores* already in its kitty. Since it has been an extended five-day weekend for the film due to its Wednesday release, the gains are already there and now it’s all about consolidating from this point on. Since Oppenheimer arrives this Friday, it was a good move by Paramount and Viacom 18 to plan an early release on Wednesday itself, which has allowed it to have add-on numbers.

Of course, a move like this can sometimes backfire as well because if a film is not good then it goes dead by the time the conventional weekend begins. However, that has not been the case with Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One and that’s the reason why it’s reaping in all the dividends.

With Sunday collections turning out to be Rs. 18 crores*, the highest so far in its run, it would now be back to single digit scores from Monday onwards. What it would need now is to stay in that Rs. 6-7 crores range right through because this is what will make it go past the Rs. 100 crores mark rather comfortably in the second weekend itself.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
