It was a fair opening weekend for Merry Christmas as Rs. 9.45 crores* come in. The film had started with Rs. 2.30 crores on the opening day so there is just about okay trending so far. However, that kind of trending which ensures collections to double up on a day-by-day basis is certainly missing. That said, it could well have been flat entirely and at least that hasn’t happened either.
The film had started with Rs. 2.30 crores on the opening day and now Sunday collections have come to Rs. 3.75 crores*. Had the numbers doubled up over Friday then it would have been an even better scenario while Rs. 5 crores would have been a good number on Sunday. That would have ensured that Monday wasn’t too far off from Friday and at least Rs. 2 crores would have been on the cards. For now though, it’s all wait and watch that how much closer to Friday will Monday turn out to be.
Critically, the film has been appreciated by most. There is nothing negative whatsoever about the film and while it’s indeed for the niche segment, at least at major multiplexes of big cities it should find its audiences. One hopes that it starts happening from today onwards because the Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer certainly deserves that.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
