Laapataa Ladies actress Nitanshi Goel expresses happiness as she gets nominated for Best Actress at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Nitanshi Goel, known for her role as Phool in the film Laapataa Ladies has been nominated in the Best Actress category at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. She joins a prestigious list of nominees, including the likes of Alia Bhatt, Sanya Malhotra, Jyotika, Alizeh Agnihotri, as well as her own co-star Pratibha Ranta, who essayed the character of Jaya in the social drama.

Expressing her excitement, Nitanshi said, “Being nominated alongside such incredible talents is an honor. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring Phool to life and thrilled to see my work recognized on this platform.”

With anticipation building for the festival, all eyes are on the nominees as they prepare to celebrate the best in Indian cinema. As for the rest of nominations, Alia is being nominated for her role as news reporter Rani Chatterjee in the romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Sanya Malhotra for her role as dancer Richa in Mrs., Jyothika for Omana in Kathal – The Core, and Alizeh Agnihotri for her debut film Farrey. As for the Best Actor category, it includes the likes of Shahrukh Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Vikrant Massey, and Ranveer Singh.

Starring Sparsh Srivastava as the leading man Deepak Kumar, the film is set in the early 2000s and tells the story of two young newlywed brides who get exchanged during a train ride to their husband’s homes. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film, also starring Ravi Kishen, Chhaya Kadam, and others in key roles, premiered at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival in September last year and later released in cinemas worldwide on March 1, 2024. The film received positive word of mouth for the realistic portrayal of characters as well as storyline. It is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
