Kareena Kapoor Khan calls Laapataa Ladies a “gem”: “Take a bow”

Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has received widespread acclaim since its OTT premiere on Netflix last month. Following the endorsements of Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor viewed the film and showed her enthusiasm on her Instagram Stories on Friday.

Kareena posted the movie’s poster on her Instagram Stories along with the caption, “What a gem… Take a bow (red heart and rainbow emojis).” She mentioned Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan Productions, and the film’s cast members Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Ravi Kishan in the post. Kiran Rao later reposted the story on her Instagram with the following caption: “Kareena (red heart emojis)”.

Earlier in the week, Alia Bhatt shared her review of the film on her Instagram Stories, noting, “Such a wonderful time at the movies…(heart emoji). I absolutely adore these ladies @pratibha_ranta @nitanshigoelofficial (and these gentlemen @ss_this_side @ravi_kishann)…@raodyness, such a beautiful film with fabulous performances by the whole cast! Congratulations to all involved…”

Priyanka Chopra also shared her praise for the film posting, “Thank you for the entertainment and the education @raodyness! Congratulations on this gem (blessings and heart-shaped-eye emojis) make more movies!”

Sunny Deol, on the other hand, reviewed the film and said, “Just finished watching Laapataa Ladies, haven’t seen such a heartwarming and innocent film in long. All my best to Kiran Rao and team will recommend all to watch this gem.” Responding to the Gadar 2 actor, Kiran Rao noted, “Thank you Sunny ji.”

Set in the imaginary state of Nirmal Pradesh in 2001, Laapataa Ladies tells the story of two brides who are inadvertently exchanged aboard a train. One bride is unknowingly carried home by the incorrect man, while the other is abandoned at a railway station. Police officer Kishan (Ravi Kishan) decides to investigate the mystery. The film, based on Biplab Goswami’s award-winning narrative, was released in theatres on March 1 and was co-produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande.

The film, produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, marks Kiran Rao’s directorial comeback following Dhobi Ghat. Prior to its theatrical release, the film was shown at the famous Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. The festival audience responded with a standing ovation.
