A grand event of Kalki 2898 AD was held today at a five star hotel in Mumbai and was full of surprises. The lead cast of the film – Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone – graced the event along with producer C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies.
Rana Daggubati was the anchor of the evening and he remarked that director Nag Ashwin is a person who doesn’t look like a film director. On this, Kamal Haasan made an interesting comment and compared him with legendary director K Balachander.
Kamal Haasan said, “I am used to these ordinary looking people who do extraordinary work. My boss and my mentor (K Balachander) was one such man. He looked like a government official. When he enters a house, the first thing you’ll feel is that there’s an income tax raid happening! That’s how he looked.”
Kamal continued, “I saw what he was capable of from the kind of films he did. Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981) was his 60th or 70th film.”
He added, “So, I was not surprised with (ordinary looks of Nag Ashwin). Such people have a depth to them. I did have the opportunity of talking to him. He’s a man of few words. If you put your idea forward nicely and if it extends to movies, it’ll translate better. When they don’t know how to present it, then great ideas become ordinary movies.”
Kamal Haasan joked, “As Amit ji said, the first thing you hear such a story, you feel like asking him, ‘what have you been smoking or drinking?’”
Kalki 2898 AD releases in cinemas on June 27.
