Kabir Khan reacts to lukewarm opening for Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion: “The slow start did throw us off balance”

Despite a lukewarm opening, Kabir Khan’s biographical sports drama Chandu Champion seems to be finding its footing thanks to strong word-of-mouth. The film, which stars Kartik Aaryan in the lead role, chronicles the inspiring true story of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. While the opening box office figures are Aaryan’s lowest in almost a decade, positive reviews and audience reactions have led to a resurgence in ticket sales.

This slow start, as Khan himself admitted to Times Now, “did throw us off balance.” The unpredictability of the current box office climate was highlighted by the director, who emphasized that the film was made with the audience in mind. He added, “His fans have certain expectations from him. A new narrative, a new experience from him takes time to sink in.”

The film chronicles the life of Muralikant Petkar, a name not as readily recognized as some of India’s sporting legends. Petkar’s journey to Paralympic gold is a testament to human resilience. Facing adversity at every turn, from poverty to a life-altering injury, Petkar’s unwavering spirit and dedication to his athletic ambitions are what Chandu Champion seeks to portray.
