The Vasan Bala directed Jigra led by Alia Bhatt has taken a slow start at the box office in India as early estimates suggest first-day business in the range of Rs. 4.75 to 5.25 crores. The film has taken an opening below the conservative expectations too, as the most pessimistic people had expected first-day business in the range of Rs. 6 to 6.50 crores.
Ideally, an Alia Bhatt film should have opened around Rs. 10 crore mark, but the slow indi feel to the teaser and trailer deserted a large section of audiences. Sadly, this is the definition of commercial cinema for the industry folks, just due to the influx of action.
Jigra will benefit by the Dussehra Holiday on Saturday and then dive to Sunday, and hence, opening weekend is expected to be in the zone of Rs. 23 to 25 crores. It’s then on the Monday test, though word of mouth seems to be mixed from the first day response.
Alia Bhatt follows Jigra up with YRF Spy Universe Film, Alpha, and that could do justice to her stardom and put up strong numbers.
