Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer released on August 10, 2023 and since then the film has been creating records at the box office. After a thunderous start the business of the film witnessed exponential growth in both the domestic and international markets. In fact, at the worldwide box office the film has been on a money-spinning spree fast crossing the Rs. 100 cr, Rs. 200 cr and even the Rs. 500 cr mark.
The staggering business Jailer has been doing at the worldwide box office is being attributed to two factors, namely the positive reviews from critics and the strong audience reaction of the film. This coupled with the stardom of Rajinikanth and the craze for the superstar has ensured the business of the film records mind numbing collections. Collecting a massive Rs. 450.80 cr within its first week itself, superstar Rajinikanth has proved yet again that his state of a megastar has not seen the slightest bit of reduction.
If that was not enough, in its second week running, Jailer witnessed a further Rs. 124.18 cr coming in at the worldwide box office, taking its total global collections well past the Rs. 500 cr mark. Currently pegged at Rs. 574.98 cr Jailer stands on the threshold of the Rs. 600 cr mark, set to breach this ceiling in the coming days.
With such massive collections in just 14 days, the business of Jailer is considered to be the biggest comeback for director Nelson as his previous outing with Joseph Vijay’s Beast did not perform well. On the box office records front, Jailer is currently the second highest grossing film of Kollywood, just behind the previous Rajinikanth starrer 2Point0 which made above Rs. 800 crores at the box office. If that wasn’t enough, with Jailer crossing the Rs. 500 cr mark, superstar Rajinikanth is the only star to have two Rs. 500 cr plus grossers in history of Tamil cinema.
