Imtiaz Ali reveals Shah Rukh Khan once said that Diljit Dosanjh is the best actor in the country; Amar Singh Chamkila star left in disbelief

In a recent episode of Kapil Sharma’s latest Netflix venture, The Great Indian Kapil Show, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali dropped a surprising revelation about actor Diljit Dosanjh, who stars in the newly released Netflix biopic Amar Singh Chamkila. Joined by co-star Parineeti Chopra, the trio delved into discussions about the film and its casting choices, unveiling insights into Diljit’s selection for the lead role.

Imtiaz Ali disclosed superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s glowing appraisal of Diljit Dosanjh’s acting prowess. He recounted Khan’s words, stating, “Mujhe Shah Rukh Khan ne bola tha ki agar iss mulk mein sabse accha koi actor hai, toh woh apne Diljit paaji hai (Shah Rukh Khan told me Diljit is the best actor in the country).” The revelation left Diljit momentarily speechless, with Parineeti Chopra echoing the sentiment with a heartfelt ‘wow’. However, Diljit, known for his witty demeanour, responded in his characteristic style, suggesting that perhaps Shah Rukh Khan commented ‘in the mood’.

Imtiaz Ali further elaborated on his decision to cast Diljit Dosanjh as the titular character in Amar Singh Chamkila, emphasizing the actor’s pivotal role in bringing the biopic to life. He expressed, “Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki agar Diljit paaji ne mana kar diya hota toh yeh film shayad ban hi nahi sakti thi (If Diljit had declined Amar Singh Chamkila, maybe it would not have been made).” Imtiaz lauded Dosanjh’s contribution to the project, asserting that they couldn’t have found a better fit for the role.

Additionally, Imtiaz Ali highlighted Parineeti Chopra’s dedication to the film, noting her commitment to the character by undergoing a physical transformation, gaining 15 kilograms for her role in the biopic. He praised Chopra’s versatility as both an actor and a singer, underscoring the duo’s collective efforts in making the project a success.

The film charts the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses, the highest record-selling artist of his time, who emerged from the shadows of poverty and rose to the heights of popularity in the 80s due to the sheer power of his music, angering many on the way, which finally led to his assassination at a young age of 27.

Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, Amar Singh Chamkila is Netflix’s ode to the vibrant life of the legendary Punjabi musician.
