Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta starrer Lakshya completes 20 years; to re-release on June 21

While Dil Chahta Hai showcases friendship, Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, is a beautiful coming-of-age drama of an unfocused young man discovering his passion at a military school. The film, which received a lot of critical acclaim, completed 20 years on June 18 and along with a heartfelt post shared by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production house Excel Entertainment, it also revealed that the film will be re-releasing in theatres this week.

As per the announcement post, Lakshya is expected to hit the cinemas this Friday, on June 21, commemorating the 20-year anniversary of its release. The post included a trailer of the film which gives audience a glimpse into the film and it was reposted by the lead cast of the film including Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, and Amitabh Bachchan. The caption for this post read, “Come, relive the journey of a film that ignited countless dreams and inspired generations. Celebrating 20 years of Lakshya, back in cinemas on 21st June.”

Farhan Akhtar, the man behind the film’s direction, shared his happiness over the film’s re-release and said, “This week the film celebrates its 20th anniversary and it’s our pleasure to bring it to select PVR INOX theatres for you to experience. There has been no greater reward than seeing the impact of this film on society and I thank all collaborators for putting their hearts and souls into its making. The re-release on this 20th milestone makes this anniversary all the more special for us and I hope for you, the audience.”

Ritesh Sidhwani, the visionary co-founder of Excel Entertainment, added, ” Celebrating 20 years of Lakshya is truly special for us. We’re thrilled to bring this cinematic gem back to audiences across the country, allowing them to experience its magic once again.”

What is Lakshya about?

Lakshya showcases the beautiful journey of Karan Shergill, who is unfocused and lazy in college unlike his girlfriend Romila Dutta who aspires to be a journalist. While following the footsteps of his one of his friends, Karan lands up in the military academy and although he faces several hiccups in the start, he soon transforms to a matured military officer and soon becoming a key member of the battalion as Captain Karan Shergill and turns into a war hero.

Along with Preity Zinta as Romila Dutta and Amitabh Bachchan as Colonel Sunil Damle, the film also features an extensive supporting cast like Boman Irani, Lillette Dubey, Parmeet Sethi, Raj Zutshi, Om Puri, Sushant Singh, among many others. The film received a lot of applause, not only for its unconventional plotline, but also for its album which had music composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and lyrics written by Javed Akhtar.
