Hindustani 2 trailer launch: Kamal Haasan talks highly of Shah Rukh Khan: “He worked in Hey Ram for FREE. That can only be done by a fan, a connoisseur of art and a good actor. I am ever thankful to him”

One of the biggest superstars of not just Indian cinema but also the world, Shah Rukh Khan, completed 32 years as a film actor today. His debut film Deewana (1992) was released on June 25 and the star, since then, hasn’t looked back. He did not just mass appealing films but also surprised the audience with his unconventional choices. One such film that fits this category was Hey Ram (2000). It was directed by Kamal Haasan and also starred him in the lead. Shah Rukh Khan was seen in a pivotal role in this flick. Today, at the launch of Hindustani 2’s trailer in Mumbai, a journalist asked Kamal Haasan about Shah Rukh Khan on his 32nd anniversary. Kamal was further asked if he saw any change in the Pathaan (2023) actor.

Kamal Haasan replied, “Let me talk on behalf of Mr SRK because I am sure that he’ll allow me to do that. When we worked together, we were all just people. I don’t see a superstar; he doesn’t see a super director. We are friends. As a matter of fact, Shah Rukh saab made that film for free. What more do you need?” As Kamal Haasan said this line, there was an instant applause.

Kamal further said, “That cannot be done by a superstar. That can only be done by a fan, a connoisseur of art and a good actor. I am ever thankful to him.”

On him and Shah Rukh Khan being called superstars, Kamal Haasan opined, “We don’t see all that. Later on, you give us titles and we shyly accept it.”
