Filmmaker Anil Sharma entered the direction arena in the early 1980s with Shradhanjali. He then continued to make entertaining films regularly, including Bandhan Kuchchey Dhaagon Ka, Hukumat, Farishtay, Tahalka, Maharaja, etc. But his career took a huge jump with the period drama Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001. The movie, which starred Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in lead roles, became a historic blockbuster as it earned Rs. 76 crores and that too way back in 2001.
This franchise has added yet another feather in Sharma’s cap as Gadar 2, the sequel of the film, has been literally taking the box office by storm ever since it was released on August 11. The movie, which is based in 1971, has earned a mammoth Rs. 228.98 crores in just five days. Hence, it has marked Anil Sharma’s entry into the Rs. 200 Crores Club.
This is not only the first time that the filmmaker has scored a double century but also the first time that his film has entered the Rs. 100 Crores or Rs 150 Crores Clubs, just like his main leads Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. And like the two stars, Sharma’s previous best score also came in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
