The anticipation surrounding the third installment of the Don franchise has been palpable since Farhan Akhtar announced it earlier last year. With Ranveer Singh stepping into the titular role, the film has generated both excitement and controversy, particularly due to the absence of Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the iconic anti-hero in the previous two films.
In a recent interview with Faye D’souza, Akhtar addressed the speculation surrounding Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement. “When I first started thinking about doing a Don 3, I mean I thought of writing something with Shah Rukh in it, but somehow we just couldn’t find the right place to be able to take the story to. We couldn’t find common ground on it – so that didn’t happen,” he explained.
Given the challenges in collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan for this project, Akhtar decided to revisit the origins of the Don character. He wanted to delve deeper into the elements that made the original Don so captivating. “So I was like, let me just kind of rethink what I want to do with the film and kind of go back. Kind of go a little bit more into like a ‘what made Don, Don’ kind of story, and that’s when I started writing that. Then, that took on a life of its own, and that needed for there to be a younger actor. Ranveer (Singh) just felt like absolutely the right guy to go to for it,” Akhtar shared.
As the excitement for Don 3 continues to build, rumours have been swirling about the potential addition of Sobhita Dhulipala to the cast. According to reports, the actress has been approached to perform a dance number in the film. A source cited by Zee News claimed, “Sobhita who has left the audience impressed with her versatility is now planning to do something that she has not done before and it looks like Don 3 is the answer for her. Going by her oomph and persona she will play the perfect attraction in the film. We have learnt Farhan Akhtar has approached Sobhita to do an item song in the film as he is very much convinced she will ace it like no other actress.”
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is currently working on Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film, while Ranveer Singh is preparing for the release of Singham Again and Dhurandhar.
