The news about Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies being selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars has taken the country by storm. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the movie starred Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan.
Among the people cheering for the film is actress Sonali Kulkarni. She is a rare Indian actor who has had two films representing India at the Oscars – The Good Road and Dr Prakash Baba Amte – in the past.
Reacting on the news of Laapataa Ladies’ selection for the Oscars, Kulkarni told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “I am extremely happy. My two films have gone for the Oscars in the past – Gujarati film The Good Road and Dr Prakash Baba Amte (Marathi). So, I know what it means when our film represents our country at the Oscars. It is a different type of happiness altogether. I am very happy for Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan and Chhaya Kadam.”
Sonali Kulkarni has had a good working relationship with the crew of Laapataa Ladies in the past. She has worked with Chhaya Kadam in the Marathi film Ticha Shahar Hona. The movie, which has been acclaimed at film festivals, is yet to release. Kadam plays the memorable character of Manju Maai in Laapata Ladies. Kulkarni has also worked with Aamir Khan in the iconic Dil Chahta Hai.
Sonali Kulkarni will next be seen in the movie Love, Sitara, which will stream on ZEE5 from September 27.
