EXCLUSIVE: “Shah Rukh Khan jokingly told me, ‘I hate you for not singing ‘Bheege Honth Tere’ for me!’” – Kunal Ganjwalla

The path-breaking film Murder (2004) completed 20 years on April 2. Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat became overnight stars and singer Kunal Ganjwalla also benefited hugely from the super-success of this erotic thriller. His song ‘Bheege Honth Tere’ was a huge chartbuster that was played in every nook and corner of the country. A year later, Kunal sang two more hit songs – the song ‘Kaal Dhamaal’ from Kaal (2005), featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora, and the title track of Salaam Namaste (2005).

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with Kunal Ganjawalla recently on the 20th anniversary of Murder. Towards the end, we asked him whether ‘Bheege Honth Tere’ helped him bag the aforementioned two songs.

Kunal Ganjawalla replied, “I believe it’s only popularity that leads to more collaborations and more projects. I also know for a fact that it’s limited to that period only and this applies to all whether singers, composers, actors, directors, etc. After that, all of them chart their own path forward.”

Kunal Ganjwalla lent his voice to superstar Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Kaal Dhamaal’. We asked him whether he interacted with him during the making of the song.

Kunal Ganjwalla revealed, “I met Mr Shah Rukh Khan personally during the Zee Award function in London in 2004. He very lovingly hugged me after Asha Bhosle ji gave me the award. He then said jokingly, ‘I hate you for not singing ‘Bheege Honth Tere’ for me!’”

The talented singer further said, “Later, I started travelling with Mr Shah Rukh Khan for concerts. I would end my part of the concert with ‘Bheege Honth Tere’ and SRK would make his second entry to join me in singing the song.”

He continued, “I travelled with him until 2009 for many concerts. He is such a gentleman and one of the finest persons and professionals that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He is truly a king in every way when you’re interacting with him!”
