EXCLUSIVE: “Ranbir Kapoor is miles ahead of his contemporaries Ranveer Singh and Kartik Aaryan,” says Taran Adarsh; praises his performance in Animal

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, veteran film critic Taran Adarsh spoke candidly about the Hindi film industry, singling out Ranbir Kapoor for his extraordinary range and performances. With admiration, Adarsh highlighted Kapoor’s ability to deliver standout performances, particularly in the 2023 film Animal, and shared his thoughts on the actor’s upcoming projects, including Ramayana and his collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Taran Adarsh Singles Out Ranbir Kapoor for His Range
Adarsh expressed that when it comes to versatility and performance, there is no one quite like Ranbir Kapoor. “Every time I talk about Ranbir Kapoor, he is something else. If there is one actor I have to single out from the Hindi film industry, apart from Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and the mass power they have, it’s Ranbir Kapoor,” Adarsh said.

He went on to clarify his admiration by comparing Kapoor to his contemporaries, noting that while actors like Ranveer Singh, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Tiger Shroff have made significant contributions, Ranbir stands out. “I feel Ranbir Kapoor is miles ahead of you all,” Adarsh added, pointing out that he does not hesitate to express his opinion, regardless of the industry norms of political correctness.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Performance in Animal: A Standout
When discussing Animal, Taran Adarsh praised Kapoor’s performance, particularly for the subtlety and depth he brought to his role. “I feel Animal is a fantastic film. When you look at Ranbir Kapoor’s body of work — Sanju, Barfi, and Animal — you can see the range of an actor,” Adarsh explained.

He mentioned that he had watched Animal four times, even though he initially missed it in theaters due to a major surgery he had last year. “I couldn’t watch Animal in theaters, so I watched it on the digital platform, and I must tell you, every time I watched it, I realized I explored something new,” he said.

Adarsh particularly lauded two scenes from Animal for their sheer emotional power. “There’s one scene where Ranbir approaches his sister, and he is looking at his brother-in-law while his father, Anil Kapoor, watches from the side. There is no dialogue, just a conversation through looks. That’s the mark of a powerful actor,” Adarsh explained.

He also spoke about another impactful scene, where Ranbir’s character undergoes a role reversal with Anil Kapoor, showcasing the depth of their relationship. “When he says, ‘Sun raha hoon, behra nahi hoon,’ I get goosebumps every time I watch it,” he remarked.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Upcoming Projects: A Powerhouse Lineup
Taran Adarsh also reflected on Ranbir Kapoor’s future in the industry, particularly his exciting slate of upcoming films. Adarsh expressed his excitement for Kapoor’s upcoming roles, including his part in Ramayana, a high-budget film that is expected to make waves. He also highlighted Kapoor’s collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, calling it a significant moment in Kapoor’s career.

“I am so happy that Ranbir is working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali again. Sanjay is a genius, and when he directs, he creates something completely different,” Adarsh shared. He also praised the collaboration between Bhansali, Ranbir, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, describing it as the coming together of “two powerhouses,” with Bhansali’s direction adding to the excitement.

With Animal Park and the second part of Ramayana also on the horizon, Kapoor’s lineup is nothing short of impressive. Adarsh explained that Kapoor’s future looks incredibly promising with these high-profile projects in the works. “Ranbir’s lineup is exceptional. He is truly on the path to doing some incredible work,” he concluded.

For the unversed, Ramayana, a two-part film, is being helmed by Nitesh Tiwari. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, titled Love & War, also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. In addition to this, Ranbir also has the sequel of Animal, Animal Park, in the pipeline.
