EXCLUSIVE: Anu Aggarwal reveals how she ‘dissociated’ herself from her character while performing the breastfeeding scene in Khalnaaikaa; says, “I’m not that girl, that girl is a psycho”

Anu Aggarwal, who became a household name with her role in Aashiqui, soon found herself to be the center of several film offers as soon as she made her debut in the industry. The reason was the grand success of the Rahul Roy starrer which catapulted her to fame in the first go itself. In a candid conversation with Bollywood Hungama, as the Khalanaaikaa actress traced her journey in the industry, she also let out some interesting revelations about how B-town functioned during the 90s, the discriminations and prejudices she faced, and of course discussed her opinion about doing intimate scenes in films.

In fact, Anu Aggarwal had an interesting piece of advice for actors who are open to doing intimate scenes wherein she asserted that once you dissociate yourself from the character you are planning, doing such scenes become comfortable.

Referring to her breastfeeding scene from the 1993 Jitendra, Jayaprada starrer Khalanaaikaa, in which Anu played the antagonist, the actress said, “Even though we were like wearing a blouse which was up till here and the kid was kept here (pointing at how the scene was shot). I mean, there was no real thing. It’s shooting. But if you see that scene, it looks like I’m really breast feeding. But the point you need to notice is why do I look so comfortable there? Because I can dissociate from that myself. Anu is not doing it obviously. I’m not that girl. That girl is a psycho. It was the character I was playing who can do anything. So I had to become her when I’m in front of the camera. And that’s what I have always done.”

She also went on to share, “I know it is very difficult for some people, because they start to identify with them. And then they feel like ‘mummy ne yeh keh diya (my mother told me)’ etc. But I think to be an actor, you need to dissociate yourself from the character you’re playing because the character is another character. And to play that character to its full potential you will have to let go of who you are.”
